If you are Allergic to Perfume, You Might be Allergic to Make Up

The reason why perfumes, and other scented products are so unpredictable, is the concept of ‘secret scent’. This is a convenient way for companies to override the obligation to list the ingredients of their products. Now, why is this so bad? There could be anything toxic in this ‘secret scent’. Toxic chemicals, combined with protein molecules are the perfect formula for an allergy to develop. No wonder so many people are developing allergies to make up products and perfumes.

The best way to find out if you are allergic is testing for that protein component, who is the common denominator of the list of beauty proucts. At our allergy clinic we will test you for Orris Root in order to fin out if this is what has been bothering you.

orris root

Orris Root consists of the of the pulverized root of several varieties of iris grown in southern Europe. The oil and line starch granules hold the pefume. Because of this and its faint violet odor, it is often used in cosmetic powders and toilet articles.

If you already know, that you have an orris root allergy, here is what you should avoid:

Cosmetics:

Face powders, shaving creams, facial creams, tooth powder, sunburn lotion sachets, shampoos, rouges perfumes, lipstick, scented soaps, teething rings, bath salts, toothpaste, hair tonic.

Tincture of orris is used in cosmetics, hence some products contain orris when they do not have any powdered orris root in them as stated on their labels.

Whenever looking for any of the products listed above, your safest choice is to go for the non-scented brands. If you are into scents try some naturally scented products such as essential oils.

Other contacts are adhesives and back plasters.

Cosmetics are never truly non-allergic, but these are free of orris root and may be used as an alternative:

Elizabeth Arden

Almay

Max Factor's Pancake

Avon

Marcelle

Mary Dunhill

Botay

Armand's Symphony

We try to look at allergies as the body’s means to propel us through a healthier door. Say good-bye to artificial and hello to the natural lifestyle !

Sincerely,
